This and That Friday

  • A young multimillionaire is offering to pony up $1,000,000 in order to keep Mike Gravel in the debate on NBC.  That’s good news for gays, as Gravel tells it like it is and has been consistent in his support of gay rights to the point of suffering from a lull in financial donations thus far.
    • He’s also bought some newspaper ads–a lot of them:
      • Those newspaper ads, by the way, are more than just a one-trick pony. Chase has purchased advertising space in the three major New Hampshire newspapers, the Monitor, the Manchester Union Leader and the Nashua Telegraph every single day between now and the end of the year. These ads are all entirely funded by Mr. Chase, they are not connected to the campaign, and touch on issues ranging from decreasing military spending to repealing the Federal Income Tax in favor of a national sales tax and imposing a carbon tax. There is even one advocating lowering the drinking age to 18, the same age at which one can join the military. All of them match Sen. Gravel’s positions and hint at Mr. Chase’s passion.  (Now that’s what I call putting your money where your mouth is!–Jamie
  • Comedy Central is taking Stephen Colbert’s candidacy seriously–at least when it comes to FEC and election laws.  (He’s polling very well, too!)
    • The network has consulted a top Washington election law firm and appears keenly aware of the strict election law provisions that could be triggered by Colbert’s satirical campaign.
  • On the non-political side, check out Pandora, a product of the Music Genome Project.  You can create your own radio stations for free and get streaming music on your PC to suit your tastes.  I’ve been having a lot of fun with this baby!
  • This idiot spent a year getting Dumbledore tattooed on his back, and now he wants it lasered off because Dumbledore’s gay.  Personally, I happen to think that if you spent a year getting a tattoo of Dumbledore on your back, then you have bigger issues to worry about than whether or not a fictional character is gay!
  • Larry Craig has a bear of a problem–namely, a Bear named David Phillips:
    • When we got to what reminded me of a rarely used guest room, he stripped me down, and the man’s hands and mouth were all over me. He kept his pants on, though, while laying me back on the bed to . . . (follow the link to get the graphic details).

  1. i am a huge fan of pandora too. i saw the founder, tim westergren, speak when they had a town hall meeting in nyc. there were hundreds of people there of all ages, races, styles, etc. part of what’s so cool about them is that they appear to me motivated first and foremost by a love for music and a desire to share it with the world, unencumbered by constant audio ads. they are about music, artists, and fans. yeah, there’s still a lot of work they need to do before it will garner mass acceptance but there’s so much potential.
