F*ck that Sh*t

In my opinion, it is parents, not government, that should regulate what children see on TV and the internet. Not all of us think so:
The Bush administration is seeking to challenge News Corporation’s Fox Network before the Supreme Court after it lost a landmark indecency case against the media company in June. . .
The case centred on two airings of expletives during the broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards by Cher in 2002 and Nicole Richie that contained several references to the words “fuck” and “shit”.
Oooookay:
Consistency is a lovely thing.

Perspective

Years ago I was a vegetarian, and a member of PETA. For three years I ate no meat, and supplemented my diet in numerous ways, as many vegans do, in order to spare the poor creatures from the slaughter.
Well, needless to say, I got over it. Gimme a good steak and some A1 and I’m ready to go. Oh, I still enjoy a good pita with horseradish cheddar, hummus, sprouts, lettuce, mustard, peppers (making myself hungry here). In fact, perhaps the best thing about being a vegetarian was the forced exposure to varied cuisines, and my acquisition of some *ahem* refined tastes. As a result I currently eat a varied diet of fresh foods from all groups and mainly try to stay away from preservatives as much as sanely possible. And I do shy away from the fast food. The only time Norm & I eat out is for Chinese food every couple of weeks, and most of what I eat there is veggies and chicken. But overall we eat very healthily by any standard.
I give you this background so that you won’t think I’m an uninformed jackass when I say this: some of you people have got to get a GRIP. It’s bad enough that we have pet food imported from China that kills our pets (not mine, thankfully, but still . . .). It’s offensive that transportation costs have driven up my grocery bill by 35% in the past 6 months. It’s downright scary that we have to worry about “mad cow” and “avian flu” and tainted peanut butter and bad canned stew, etc, etc.
But today I saw this ad on Alternet:

This a beyond zealous. It’s downright cuckoo. What’s next? McDonald’s having to pipe soothing music into their soybean fields so the beans don’t get depressed? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all against animal cruelty, but these are birds we’re talking about. With a brain the size of a pea. I just can’t bring myself to feel badly if they are in cramped quarters. If they don’t like it, fry ‘em up and see how they like that.
Seems like I’ve come a long way from animal rights activist, eh? That’s because I have. I love animals, as Norm can certainly tell you (and he’d not be with me if I didn’t). But I’ve learned that if I’m going to get worked up over creatures being confined to cramped quarters, I’m going to worry about humans first. Like the children huddled over looms in India, forced to work to pay off their families loans.
When we start treating all people like people, then I’ll feel bad for the chickens.

And we’re supposed to take advice from him?
I can be as downright bitchy as the next gay man, but I try not to unleash it unduly. HOWEVER, when someone has the audacity to say he’ll respond to interview questions for Homomojo if I mail them to him, (the was way before he got Bravo licking his ass), and then rudely ignores them, well, that’s when I tend to keep watch on the little turd. I had every intention of being nice, too, and even worded the interview questions with tact.
Not anymore.

Don’t Appeal, Let Him Out NOW
Posted by Jamie
I know I said I’d stay away from the political stuff, but this bears following up on.
From MSNBC:
A judge on Monday voided a 10-year sentence for a man accused of having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17. Genarlow Wilson was instead given a 12-month misdemeanor sentence with credit for time already served.
It’s about damned time.
I wrote about Genarlow Wilson some time ago, and the inequity in his treatment has been abominable. If he’d had ACTUAL sex with the young lady, he’d have not served a day in jail. Yet now, over 2 years later, he’s still serving time for merely having bad judgement as a teenager. If all teens showing bad judgement and having relations like this with other, younger, teens were sent to prison, the prisons would be packed like sardine cans.
Yet even now, after a judge has ordered him released–and after the Georgia legislature has amended the law he was convicted under to make his crime no longer a crime–the state is “expected to appeal.” To what end? A waste of taxpayer monies? A prosecutor with a grudge?
This boy was an honor student who went to a party, used pot, and had consensual–note that word–oral sex with a girl two years younger than him. Democrats and Republicans alike–including the jury that convicted him and the author of the law he was convicted under–cite this as an extreme travesty of justice. Yet the prosecutor still has a hard-on for putting this kid in jail.
I don’t know if it’s racism or a simple-minded vindictiveness that pushes this prosecutor to go so far. But it should damned well stop now, before Genarlow has to serve more time for what was one fairly minor, and still consensual, lapse in judgement.
Or there but for the grace of God go your own children.
